Where the bustle of 'Little Saigon' meets the Civic Center
The Cristobal Apartments are situated in the heart of the historic Civic Center/Tenderloin District on O'Farrell between Larkin and Hyde Streets. To the locals, this property sits just on the border of the bustling "Little Saigon" with its many restaurants and vibrant street life. The Cristobal's extravagant ornamentation was considered a hallmark of its designer, the Swedish-born San Francisco architect, August Nordin. The row of gargoyles, two of which can be seen on either side of the leftmost window, the dynamic cast-iron balcony supports, and the repetitive floral patterns combine to create a unique and ornate jewel box effect.
According to the January 1936 issue of Architect and Engineer, August Nordin designed over 300 structures, including the Altamont Hotel on 16th St. (1912), the Swedish-American Hall (1907) and the building that houses the famed Buena Vista Cafe at Fisherman's Wharf (1911).
This classic property has Studio, 1 Bedroom, and 2 Bedroom units, many of which have been renovated.
This bustling neighborhood has many trendy ethnic restaurants, hip bars and nightclubs, bookstores, theaters, cafes and music venues including the famed Great American Music Hall.
